ooking closely at the NUA web section on “impact,” write about NUA’s constituents. Who does NUA serve (name and describe three groups)? The website states that “94% of our students are from five ZIP Codes; 02904, 09205, 02907, 02908, and 02909 where collectively the poverty rate for families with kids is 34%, almost twice the national average.” Choose one zipcode and look up demographic data online. Share some of your findings. What can you tell about this neighborhood by looking at the demographics? What can’t you tell? Some good websites for demographic research include: American FactFinder, Esri, or just type in the zipcode + demographic data into Google to see what you find!

  1. Thanks for your post Tracy. It's interesting that you chose your own zipcode. What does this data tell you about your neighborhood and how does it resonate with your own experiences and perceptions?

  2. The data made me understand the pro and cons of my neighborhood. First, average of non working family and students. I thought my neighborhood had more working class family, and students, not just elementary students, but college wise. I don't have much experience with my area, because my schedule keeps me busy and i don't visit people in my neighborhood. My kids do have the friends, but i see those parents going and coming from work, like me. I thought it was a working class neighborhood. I still love it, love the people that lives here, and i'm proud to be one of those people.
