Write a critical reflection on the mission and vision statements for your internship organization.

  1. Begin by copying and pasting the mission/ vision into your blog post.
  2. Rephrase these statements into your own words.  What problems/ values/ dreams do these statements articulate or imply?
  3. Using the criteria set up on the mission-vision worksheet,  evaluate these statements. What works well? What would you change?
  4. If your organization doesn’t have a mission/ vision statement, try writing your own!

Y. M. C. A Mission: is to put Christian principles into practice through programs that help healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Core Values: Caring: to demonstrate a sincere concern for others, for their needs and well-being. They also implements four core values, which we try to incorporate into all of our programs, these values are, respect, honestly, responsibility, and caring.

in my own opinion, YMCA been promoting Christianity, encouraging people to live healthy by eating healthy food, and regular exercise. They have more programs to help kids work on their early goals and also adults, and promoting positive-ties  into their communities. For the changes, they will need to replace most of their staff, because some of the old staff, needs to learn from the young folks who are coming up with so much energy, goals from colleges.

I will keep Christianity because, we need to have God's words in everything in order for our kids to love, and respect each others. The kids learn so much from us, so teaching them positive things, will keep their mindset peacefully and learn how to embrace everyone.
I will make changes with the staff, because the world is growing daily, more changes everyday, you can't have the same staff for twenty plus years, that means the kids will not have changes into their lives.

  1. Thanks for your post Tracy. It's interesting that you included Christianity here (of course YMCA stands for Young Men's Christian Association, although the Christianity part is rarely discussed. I wonder how others feel about the inclusion of Christianity. Also, I'd like to know more about your opinions about staff. Are you arguing that staff have been there for too long? If so, why? Many nonprofit organizations have a difficult time retaining staff and often have high rates of turnover.

  2. I agreed with them retaining staff because, that helps the kids or people to learn new things and brings more changes to the organization. the new staff can bring on board, new skills, ideas, and some of the technology that they learned from their schools and environment.
