DREAM JOB or CHARTING A PATH: Pick a position that you want to see yourself in one day (it could be next year or in ten years). This might be a role at your current organization, a job that one of our guests described, or something else completely. Describe the position--what are the main responsibilities? What is exciting to you about this job? What seems challenging? What education/ experience/ networking will you do to achieve this goal? First of all I'm already establishing a school in Liberia, west Africa. As a founder, i do have a mission in place for the school and priority in order. My mission is to provide education to the less privilege kids with low cost. We will provide many equipment that will help those who are late in learning to catch up with their fellow classmates. There will be many activities to keep students busy during and after school program. examples : computers lab, vocational classes, sport activities etc. My number one priority, is having good t...
Part of your reading this week includes four examples of “direct mail” fundraising requests that I received from nonprofit organizations in the last months of 2017. Write a reflection/ critique of these letters that speaks to the following questions: What do these letters have in common? What are the big differences? What tools do the organizations use to persuade the reader to donate? If you had $50.00 to donate to one of these organizations, which one would you choose and WHY? The letters were requesting for funds, to sustained their programs. To buy supplies for the kids schools and after school programs. The big differences, was the amount of request and reasons of requesting for the funds. One of the letters said, they were looking for fund to buy kids after school program, another said, they were asking for fund to established a program for kids with disabilities, another said, they needed the money for field trip and snacks for the kids, the last one said, they ...
For homework this week, you will research one of four local philanthropic foundations. Write up a short synopsis of this foundation that includes: The foundation’s mission and history (in 3-5 sentences) Where does their money come from? (private donations, a wealthy family, corporate profits, etc.) Their funding guidelines (what do they fund? What don’t they fund?) Describe one of their grant programs Write up 2 questions about this foundation I'm going to write about my own foundation which was established in 2014, after the death of my mother. I decided this foundation to help unfortunate kids in my country, my mother was a non educated woman who helped many kids achieved their goals, and some of those kids are now working on their Maters degree. she was a humble, caring, and servant of God who always wanted to see kids earn their degrees. As her daughter, i decided to continue her legacy by building schools in my country Liberia to help out, i'm curren...

Blog post #5: There are so many ways to know and appreciate youth. You go to your internship site at least once a week and most you see and interact with young people there all the time! Write two short paragraphs from different perspectives about who your organization serves. One should provide some demographic data (race, age, gender, neighborhood, class, language); the others could talk about the youth in terms of their interests, passions, skills, conflicts, etc. YMCA, serves varieties of people around the world, but my program on branch avenue, serve the same kind of kids and youth, blacks, whites, chines, Asian, and Mexican. etc. Their roles vary, some are interested in playing basketball, football, becoming coaches, teachers, and one of the kids talked about becoming a president one day. The kids also talking about working as a team, going on a field trip, and doing activities that will keep them outdoor and socializing with people in the community. Another kids talked ab...
ooking closely at the NUA web section on “impact,” write about NUA’s constituents. Who does NUA serve (name and describe three groups)? The website states that “94% of our students are from five ZIP Codes; 02904, 09205, 02907, 02908, and 02909 where collectively the poverty rate for families with kids is 34%, almost twice the national average.” Choose one zipcode and look up demographic data online. Share some of your findings. What can you tell about this neighborhood by looking at the demographics? What can’t you tell? Some good websites for demographic research include: American FactFinder , Esri , or just type in the zipcode + demographic data into Google to see what you find! I've decided to pick my zipcode, which is 02908. Because, i never thought that there were more poor and unemployed people living in my area until i googled it. The information i found is interesting. 02908 is an area in Providence County, Rhode Island with a population of 36,288. There are 17,453 m...
Using the theory of change worksheet, consider your internship organization’s approach to making social change. What problem are they trying to solve? How do programs support the mission? What is your organization’s theory of change? In all we do, based on our learning, we are now able to present a framework for a change model based on our common reality and goals in youth empowerment. We believe this framework will guide us to fulfill our collective potential for a global impact as a YMCA movement worldwide and as an organizational leader in youth empowerment. And this change model is built on our Christian values and principles, The Youth Empowerment framework and change model is open for young people of all backgrounds, faith, and cultures. The YMCA seeks to serve all young people unconditionally. Youth Empowerment in Action is the YMCA change process. The change process is youth led, youth focused and youth determined and leads to a change of circumstances, abilities, and oppor...
